Ok, I finally broke down and decided I'm going to buy a thermacell bug repellant machine, but I still want to use it for deer hunting in the fall. I see it comes with a normal mat and there is also an "earth scent" that can be used. Is the normal mats scent free or should I should I use the earth scent ones? I am clueless on this stuff so any help is appreciated!

Hey OL! What's with that hyperlink in my Strut Zone post!? I DID NOT put it there and I DO NOT appreciate my words being used as advertising. That is really low brow treatment of a commenter. Shame on you. I have noticed some other user's comments being hijacked like this too. How do the rest of you feel about advertising keywords being placed in your comments to advertise a product?

Have enjoyed Outdoor Life for years. Back in the 60's there was a 3 or 4 month article about a womans life with her husband (hunter, trapper) and there child. living in the Peace River area. The authors name or any info would be greatly appreciatted.

In the Midwest over the last several decades we have seen a shift from organic venison to not organic venison, mainly because of monoculture tactics. The chicken (organic) I buy at the grocery store is a more pure meat than what I harvest in the wild. Does this matter at all?

Regarding the tragedy in Newtown, CT last week: What do you all think would be the appropriate response to this horrific act? Do you think any laws need to be changed/implemented, and if so, what? Please keep your answers well-reasoned and polite - no mindless rants.

I read your suggestions for field safety pouches, meaning pouches with first aid items. What typically happens afield, or in boats, is someone is cut or scraped deeply and starts to bleed. Nowhere in your first aid kits, all 4 presented, was there anything to counteract bleeding. So the monthly question I ask is: Why has no-one recommended something like Kwik-Klot or something similar be recommended, and explained where a sportsman could purchase this item on a competitive price basis. I would think this would be a fundamental element in any first aid kit. Why is it overlooked so frequently? reticle@hotmail.com
