Largemouth bass
ICE OUT UPDATES: Lake Vermilion (Huge lake near Canadian border) was free of ice 5 days ago. Week and a half ago that lake still had 18 inches of good white ice on it! Big lakes around Leech lake are also out. So I am guessing that most if not all lakes are free of ice. This weekend is going to be my fishing opener. Also, another year I couldn't get out turkey hunting. I might pull a tag for fall, since i saw a group running around in october near my cabin.

Answer Question
Walleye
This is the first year in the last five that I won't be going to northern MN for the walleye opener which is May 11, this year. Maybe that's a good choice. I'm from IA but would really like some feedback on the ice out situation on Leech, Cass, and other lakes in that area.

Answer Question
Walleye
What are your tactics for catching ; walleyes, bass, northerns, ect.Im pretty confident by now that walleyes hang out between 14-20 ft and bite on jigs tipped with minnows or leeches. Northerns like spinners as do bass. Northerns also go after minnows at random times during the day. They also will bite rapalas if you speed troll when other fish wont bite. The two best fish to catch when the sun is high are northers and Bass, Crappies and walleyes seem to wait until around sunrise/sunset. Also, if the ice isnt out yet on your lake, just throw in a couple sticks of TNT until you are stratified, (sarcasm)

Answer Question
Largemouth bass
At our farm we do a lot of catch and release fishing and I was just wondering if there was a way to safely 'mark' a fish so that we could tell if we ever caught it again.

Answer Question
Largemouth bass
I am looking at buying a new baitcasting setup that I can use for lighter lures such as scum frogs and other topwaters, but still have the power to pull bass through lilypads. I bought my first baitcaster last year, an Abu Garcia Silver Max last spring, so I am not an expert yet but I am comfortable with them. Any suggestions would be great, especially those in the price range of a soon-to-be college student. Thanks!

I am a newbie to crappie fishing so i had a couple questions for the more experienced. what type of lures are best for crappie fishing and are they in the same type of vegetation that a bass hangs out in. or where should i look to find hotspots for crappie. a downed tree in the water or grassbeds or around rocks anything helps thanks in advance for any answers.
