leaving tackle in the sun or even in a hot vehicle, rod storage or camper can decrease the lines breaking strength. Best to keep fishing tackle in a cool garage or closet if posible as well as rinsing mud and salt off before storing.

Its cheap insurance to change your monofilament line at the start of every season. Its not worth losing the fish of a lifetime because your line failed to hold up.IMO muddy and or salt water seem to shorten line lifespans also.On my "big game" rods I usually respool twice a season.

Sunshine is the enemy of monofilament line, especially the UV rays. Keep it out of the sun and it will last for a couple of seasons as long is it isn't nicked and scarred.
