there are three main types of asian carp in the US. Grass Carp, Silver Carp, Bighead Carp. Silver carp are the ones notorious for jumping in the air. both silver and bighead are filter feeders. THis means that they feed on plankton in the water column. most people catch them on dumb luck on a number of things. As far as a rod. i use a 8'6" Ugly stick spinning rod and a baitrunner reel for common carp. i've caught grass carp on a fly rod using small green flies and on my spinning rod i've used chunks of roma tomatoes
