I heard one time, " A day to learn, a lifetime to master".

Big O, I'd heard that saying applied to poker, but never to fly fishing. But it certainly works!

Thanks Mr. Bunyan.
I heard it from a guy during a job interview.
He asked what I do for fun(hunt/fish)asked if I fly-fished and I immediatly went into the 10/2 positions
(in the interview mind you) and thats when he told me that. Oh I got the job by the way.

the cast takes not that long to master if you work at it, but flyfishing on moving water such as a trout stream is something that will take time

Learning depends on the person, but usually the time to acomplish learning it is within one month. as for toughness, its hard to say. It depends on the fish and the conditions, just like any other way of fishing.
