buy high quality fishing line, and a reel with a good drag system,and dont set the drag too high.
I have only been surf fishing once with a friend of mine andhe uses a weedeaterline leader with a 14/0 cicle hook with either finger mullet,ladyfish,saltwater gizzardshad or crab meat
we went last weekend and caught 12 or 13 red drum and one shark
