Q:
I am going to the Mayan Riviera in Mexico in February 2010 and want to go deep sea fishing. Can anyone suggest a reputable charter in or around the Akumal/ Tulum area? There are so many that are not!

I went fishing there in August. I signed up through our travel rep at the resort. It was fun, except the crew baited and fished the hooks; once a fish was on the hook you get to reel it in. We caught baracudas, trigger fish, etc... My only complaint was that we only went about 2 miles offshore and the crew prepped everything. Being a Texas coastal fisherman i would of rather worked the gear and bait myself. this was definitely tourist fishing. So, my advice is to get with your travel rep to find a fishing charter geared towards the more avid fisher rather than tourist. Have fun and be safe.

PS: Hit up the Chilly Willy's night spot for a good time.

Thanks Texas Tom.....Only problem is we are not going through a travel agent. We look after everything ourselves. Were you closer to Akumal as we will be? Where is Chilly Willy's?

OK. I see. I was told that most of the best fishing charters run out of Puerto Morelos which is about 10 miles north of Playa Del Carmen. We were around Xel Ha. I believe you're going south of that.

Chilly Willy's is a gentlemens club south of Playa Del Carmen. Had my bachelor party there; quite an adventure.
