Q:
i am new to surfcasting and need advice on line. i will be fishing for stripers up to 50lbs, with live bait mostly, using a 12ft heavy spinning outfit. should i be using mono or a braided line? and what test would be heavy enough for this style of fishing? 30lb, 40lb, 50lb test?? im in a rural area and have to order it in, so i want something that will work.
thanks

30lb Power Pro Braid, should do the trick.
Not sure about surf casting. But we use 30,50 lb. mono line on fresh water fish here in Ark.
where im stuck on this one is this...line flexabilty and maximum casting distance. surf casting around here requires a large weight (4-6oz) and a whole squid or mackeral strip(4-6 oz).to get maximum casting distance which would be best? the flexible stretch of mono or a no stretch braid? distance is in the75-100 yard range.i would prefer braided line for its no stretch hooksetting, but distance very critical on my beaches.
i would go with 50-65 pound test it always sam then srry the probalm is braid is pricy
