Q:
Hey guys. So i'm thinking about buying a handgun for concealed carry. What caliber should i get? I want to make sure that, if the situation arises, i can eliminate the threat but not have anyone in harm from a pass through or anything, i am not interested in anything less than a mid-full size semi auto so no tiny bullets. Thanks guys!

I just asked a question very similar to this. I was considering both 9mm and .40 in the glock style. I was wondering what company or brand is the best to buy. Price range is 500-700$.
I've got a Ruger LCR. Its light, handles well and can be concealable in several different ways. It has plenty of juice for close range and a laser sight. When at home I have a S&W 686. You have plenty of time and there is some good advice here. Check them all out.

Everyone is on the big. 380ACP kick; I would say stay away from them. It feels like they just wanna jump out of your hand they are so small. 9mm is an excellent gun but why not get a 10mm (.40S&W) instead? I would highly suggest Glock considering it is what we use at work however don't be afraid to check out revolvers too! Advances in light weight metal revolvers make the guns light as a feather and pretty slender too. I'd say check out the ol "Saturday Night Special" .38+P. JM's suggestion isn't horrible one!! Colt and Kimber make sub compact .45ACP single stacks that are excellent carry guns. Try going to a range or store that allows you to test fire guns too. See what fits your hands and what you feel comfortable with firing. Also, keep it mind where you wanna keep it. No point in carrying some big honkin gun on your ankle or on your side when your in shorts and a tee. And my last piece of advice, be sure to be FULLY aware of your concealed carry permit laws for your state and neighboring states with reciprocity. Hope this helps

In the case that you are right about the JHP(You probably are right), check out the defensive ammo's in .45ACP (like the ones Johnnie mentioned for the 9mm).
-On a second note, the 9mm would be second on my list...I just prefer the .45ACP.

You can't go wrong with a Glock 9mm. Buy some of those frangible personal-defense rounds, and you should be set.
No offense, but I disagree with JM that the .45 ACP would be a good choice, with your requirements in mind. At typical self-defense ranges, those .45 JHPs would blow right through any attacker, and potentially harm bystanders downrange.
For concealed carry, I'd recommend something similar to the Ruger SR9c (9mm) as a budget-friendly alterntive.
