remington makes "rem choke" extended rifled chokes for the 870. www.lebaron.ca carries every size of rem choke tubes for under $40
Sportsmans Whse,Dicks,etc.(lge. sporting goods stores) should all carry them.
I don't believe an older Rem 870 with a choked barrel can be modified to handle the screw-in chokes. Machining and threading the barrel doesn't leave enough meat to safely support those handy chokes. Correct me if I'm wrong, any gunsmith out there.
guess he will haveo shop for a new barrel that will allow for screw in chokes.I have seen them at gun shows for about 150 bucks.
To Cody: Talked to my "smith" and he said could be done, but NOT CHEAP !
He'd need a new barrel, with "factory" threads, cheaper in the long run.
Don't know how much money you have to spend, but one avenue might be a place like Hastings Barrels. (http://hastingsbarrels.com/12para.html) I have never used their stuff, but I have seen ads for them all over, also places like Cabela's sell replacement barrels.
Thanks Big O regarding the threaded chokes,.. now we know. I think I would check out Mossbergs replacement barrels for the Rem 870...they are usually cheaper.
