Bullets or Caliber rifle ?
As for caliber, The .30's will work well on the plains game(.30-06,.300 Win Mag). Elk type rounds would be good for this.

Jim Carmichael had an outstanding article on the use of a .30-06 in Africa as the ONLY gun he took. I found it to be a great read and over the years I have learned a great deal from the man.
