Q:
Where do you suggest I hunt for mule deer to get the biggest bang for my bucks and have a real opportunity to take one? I would appreciate any information on good guides and/or ways to secure one. I live in PA Thanks!

I'll stay out of guide recommendations for now, but you might look at these states:
MONTANA - The pros include a long season (5 weeks for rifle hunters with a season that extends through the November rut) and good access on public land or private land enrolled in the Block Management program. The nonresident draw deadline was last week, March 16. Odds of drawing a general tag are a little less than 50%, but if you don't get drawn your first year your bonus point gives you an edge the next year. Cons: not the greatest trophy production.
UTAH - Pros: Great trophy hunting and good public-land access, but the best trophy potential is in the limited-entry areas and drawing odds are cliff-steep. Consider one of the regional hunts if you just want to draw and have a chance to explore some new ground. Cons: overcrowding on the most accessible public land.
IDAHO - Some great mule deer hunting in the Southeastern Region, in the Salmon Region and in southwest corner of the state in the Owyhee Canyon area.
WYOMING - Another great destination for do-it-yourself hunting on public land. But nonresidents need to apply for a couple of years, building preference points, to have a chance of drawing the premium units. Consider Region G in the southwestern corner, the Wyoming Range.

Good luck!

Thank you very much, Mr. McKean, for the information. It will be very helpful as I decide what I want to do regarding a hunt. Do you have any information on sites detailing guides that I could trust to be reliable and accurate? Many guides are offering services but I have gone that route years ago and spent money for naught. It has left me leery on finding the right guide this time around. If you had further direction on do-it-your-self hunting-where and how-it would be appreciated. Again, thank you!
