Depends on whether he saw you. Did he spook? Or was he looking for a fight. If so rattle and snort/wheeze at him... Good luck!
While I've never done it successfully, I've heard that you can wheeze back at a deer if they didn't see or smell you, but were alarmed by the sound. The idea is that you are another deer alarmed by its presence as well.
I have had this happen many times during the years walking in to a treestand or hunting location. For the most part I regard this as the "alarm signal" and so in that respect this interaction between deer and hunter is for the most part over.It does not mean however that you hunting location you have selected is ruined for there still we be deer movement after the fact.If you are patterning a specific buck and this happens ---I would set up about a hundred yards away from the area the next few times out;assuming the deer may have imprinted on the interaction and may use some extra caution or stage longer before passing through.I would not feel defeated just aware that one buck is a little wiser.
i had two 4 pter sparring in front of me about 40 yds away right before dark.... i knew they wouldnt make it within range by dark so i climbed down thinkin i could stalk up and get one before it got dark. as i got to the bottom of my stand they were starring at me. ... the smaller one blew or wheezed and took off... so i wheezed back and they larger buk wlked up to within 15 yds straight to me before his demise!!!
thanks for all the info on the "wheeze back" it works!!!!!!
