Q:
A couple years ago a friend of mine shot a deer and was never recovered. The arrow hit in the back half and the deer ran off with it sticking out of it. My other friend said that deer will grab the arrows with their mouths and break them off. I find that hard to believe. I just figured they were broken off when moving through the woods. Has anybody heard of deer breaking the arrows off with their mouths? I just thought of this and had to ask. Thanks! :)

Actually, this year my buddy was hunting and had spine shot a doe, he waited for me to get over there to help him with the deer. (Finish it off) As i was slowly walking up the doe turned her head and tried to what looked like pull the arrow out and when she couldn't she broke it off. It was something ive never seen before but i guess it happens!

My first bowkill was a heavy 250 lb 10 pointer in NW MO. Shot him at 15 yds with an old Whitetail II bow. The arrow hit the rear ribs and stopped dead with a loud vibration. He walked 60 yds, hopped a fence and diappeared in the woods. I followed his trail 30 mins later. I found the fletching portion broke off in a v notch in a tree 3 ft off the ground, like he got the arrow in the notch and used the tree to help break it! Then I found 4 inches of shaft 20 yds away that was bit off (the ends were crimped shut on the aluminum)! I saw where he laid down in a creek for a bit then made it another 50 yds to a beanfield where he was done. The arrow was broke off just below the hide. No other explanation needed there!
