Q:
A hunting buddy of mine and I were hunting deer in MT last season and while walking to an area he made the comment that he could tell from their droppings which ones were from a buck and which was from a doe! The ones with dimples were from bucks and the ones without were from does. Is it possible to tell?

It sounds like your buddy is pulling your leg to me. The only thing I could think of that you might see around droppings to tell a difference would be the tracks near them. But I'm not an expert in animal digestion.
I agree...but you can also tell when there is a mature buck around if the droppings are almost like little pancakes squished together in a long column. But to decipher between a buck and a doe from regular droppings is pretty impossible.
PJ is right, where most deer are little "pellets". Mature buck will have more of a "log" for lack of a better word.
Iagree with PJ that mature bucks make larger droppings then a doe ODL wrote about size ID.in the field.
