Never had a deer be alarmed at all. In fact, I also partake in the trapping season and have often times urinated on the back of my own sets. It sounds bizarre... but I've only caught two red fox in my entire life. Both were caught at dirthole sets where I urinated on the backing. Perhaps it's a hoax (or just plain coincidence) but there was something about my homemade lure that called in the fox. =)

They can smell it but they don't associate it with humans. I used to hold it but now I just let it fly. Have had many deer walk under me after doing so and they were not alarmed.

Yes they sure can. human urine is simular to deer urine and deer are actually attracted to it . Human urine has been used on mock scrapes and bucks have been photographyed urinating on the scrape.
