A black tailed deer has a black tail and a whitetailed deer has a white tail. hahahah that pretty much sums it up.

Black tail deer are a sub species of mule deer. Their racks are usually smaller than a muley's. A white tail is a different species all together with coues deer being a sub species. Hope this helps
