Q:
I had someone tell me that if I put a few drops of vanilla extract on my hunting clothes, it would attract deer. Is this true or is the guy telling me this so that I don't shoot any of his deer?

i have no idea but recnetly on a different question another member aslo said that pure vanilla will be a curioustity attractnat for deer
If in bear country I wouldnt advice using anything but doe pee as an attractant.

I had previously posted that I've seen it used as a curiousity. After being told about it I first tested it by sprinkling vanilla extract in a trail out back in view of my windows and within bow shot of the archery stand out in the woods on my back corner. No luck in my AM hunt, but that evening I saw a doe follow the line with nose down across the property. Buddy who'd first mentioned it took a nice buck that year who came in to sniff a smear of icing on a leaf. Good luck.
Also, if you're still hunting and want an attractant, I can see having no other options, but I'd be against personally smelling like food or any other scent. Forget the danger, you want your own scent away from your lure so a deer doesn't walk straight in at you from downwind and scent you or fail to offer a shot. There's nothing more frustrating than a deer getting within hand fighting range dead on while holding a bow.
I have hunted in Oklahoma with my son and grandson and every time we went out to the fields they sprayed my boots with vanilla. I always had luck in getting a deer but,never knew if the vanilla had anything to do with it. The locals seemed to use it. Now we use the new scent killers.
