How often should you clean your gun after use? The question comes from growing up, my dad basically always said that any time you take the gun out you have to clean it. That meant that everytime I went out in the woods whether I took a shot or not it had to be cleaned. I want to know why my shoulder is getting sore with a 20 gauge instead of a 12 gauge with less kick. Let’s say both shells are shooting the same shot and powder. Looking at ballistics, the 20 looks like it’s maybe 50 fps faster (which may be the bore), but that’s all I can find. I think a 20 hits harder, but if so, why? So besides the gauge and everything else being equal, what is the difference?

When I shoot my Marlin XL7 from the bench at the range the bullets go right where the crosshairs are on the target. However, when hunting from a stand the shots go high and to the right. I don't think buck fever is the issue. Could it result from wearing more clothing? Any suggestions?
