Sergey Gorshkov Photos: Dogs vs Russian Brown Bear-13

    by

Photographer Sergey Gorshkov captured this dramatic encounter of two guard dogs scaring off a huge brown bear in Kamchatka, Russia.

The bear swam across Kurile Lake to check out a fishing boat for food. When the owner of the boat saw the bear pulling up to the dock, he cut loose two of the camp guard dogs, a labrador and an akita.

State Record Tiger Muskie Caught in ... New Mexico?-0

    by

New Mexico isn't exactly known for being home to world-class muskie fishing. But, if stories like this keep popping up on the wire, that could change.

Earlier this summer Justin Easley caught this 46-inch tiger muskie weighing 31 pounds and 14 ounces in Blue Water Lake. His fish broke the New Mexico state record, which has changed hands three times in just the last year and a half, according to the Associated Press.

Video: Three Bear Cubs Rescued from a Dumpster-5

    by

Most of the time it's best to let mother nature do her own thing. But sometimes it's nice to offer a helping hand, like in this video from LiveLeak in which three little bear cubs are stuck in a dumpster.

Another Request for Obama Questions, This Time Without the Venom-10

    by

Really? Is President Obama really going to allow the United Nations to grab our guns? Does he really have disdain for our armed forces? Is our Commander-in-Chief really a two-bit, unpatriotic, closet-Muslim “moron”?

Those are some of the more tame comments you’ll find here when we asked you to pose questions for President Obama.

It’s no secret that Obama has polarized much of America, and this fall’s presidential campaign promises to get even more divisive before it’s over on Nov. 6. So maybe we should have anticipated some of the anger and hysteria that came out of our request for questions for the President.

Goatman Update: Mystery Man in Goat Suit is a Hunter-3

    by

Yesterday Newshound covered the story of a mystery man climbing the mountains of Utah dressed in a goat suit. The unidentified man, who donned a painter's uniform and white fleece, was photographed trying to get close to a herd of wild mountain goats.

It turns out the 'goatman' is a 57-year-old bowhunter from California who was field testing a decoy he plans to use on a hunt this fall.

'Goatman' Dressed in Homemade Goat Suit on the Loose in Utah-5

    by

I like a good decoy as much as the next guy, but this is crossing the line. A man dressed in a homemade goat suit was spotted last Sunday on Ben Lomond Peak in Utah trying to join a group of wild mountain goats.

Coty Creighton, a photographer hiking in the area, documented the strange encounter and relayed his story to Fox13...

" 'He was clumsy, working his way down the cliff trying to catch up with the rest of the herd,' said Creighton. 'With the binoculars I could clearly see it was a guy dressed up in a homemade goat suit.'

If You Could Ask Mitt Romney One Question...-22

    by

What single question would you like Mitt Romney to answer as he enters the home stretch in his presidential campaign?

Maybe the Republican candidate’s stance on our 2nd Amendment rights? Or his position on the sale of federal land? How about his support for domestic energy development and mitigation of its impact on our hunting and fishing lands?

In this presidential campaign, we’ve heard an awful lot about national health care, about how each candidate intends to turn our economy around, about Obama and Romney’s positions on foreign policy, gay marriage, and Supreme Court decisions. We even know how much money they have in various personal investments.

Cougar Caught on Camera in Buffalo County, WI-5

    by

The Wisconsin DNR released a report yesterday, announcing that a cougar had been caught on camera during its evening stroll in Buffalo County. Though cougar tracks were confirmed in the area of the sighting, the hard soil made it impossible to trail the animal.

Since 2008, there have been six other unique feline visitors to the state, according to hair, blood and scat samples taken by the DNR. Unfortunately, this feline out-foxed DNR officials, leaving no DNA sample to allow them to determine if it was a new individual.

Wisconsin DNR Approves Wolf Hunt for Fall 2012-0

    by

The Wisconsin DNR board unanimously approved a wolf hunt for this fall with a harvest limit of 201 animals and a permit limit of 2,010.

This is a relatively conservative kill quota, considering the state has an estimated wolf population of 815-880 wolves, according to the DNR.

This from the Wisconsin Journal Sentinel:

"The board was able to vote only on the DNR proposal for wolf quotas, zones and a limited number of specific hunting and trapping rules.

21-Pound Lobster Caught at Nauset Beach, Cape Cod-1

    by

Something odd is going on over at Nauset Beach near Cape Cod. Last week a 14-foot great white was spotted cruising the shallows after kayakers. This week the depths brought forth a 21-pound lobster. So just how large is a 21-pound ocean bug. Elise Costa, manager of Capt’n Elmers restaurant where the lobster is being held explained it to WBZ this way, “I had its tail on my shoulder and I had each claw in one of my hands, and it was as long as my arms and as big as my torso. It’s giant.”
