If you’re already an Instagrammer, be sure to check us out at Outdoor_Life. If you don’t use Instagram yet, but have an iPhone or Android phone, now’s the time to get on board. With fall finally upon us, we’re going to be sharing photos from all of our upcoming adventures as they happen. We’ll probably run a few hashtag contests with gear giveaways, too, but you’ll only be eligible to win if you follow us on Instagram.

Michigan State Record Broken, Angler Catches 37.4lb Black Buffalo-1

    by

Bryan DeGoede broke the Michigan state record for black buffalo when he nailed a whopping 37.4 pound specimen on September 5, reports The Detroit Free Press.

DeGoede caught the beast at 11:50 p.m while bowfishing on the Kalamazoo River in Allegan County. The record was verified by Department of Natural Resources fisheries manager for Southwest Michigan, Jay Wesley. Jay’s department has been busy this summer as Bryan’s catch marks the second record breaker this season. Rodney Akey of Niles caught a 49.8-pound, 45.7-inch flathead catfish in the St. Joseph River on May 22.

SC Family Lands 12-foot Alligator -0

    by

A South Carolina family snagged a 12-foot alligator on Lake Moultrie earlier this week.

Hali Lane tells WCSC-TV that she, her father Chris, and Uncle John Lane were alligator hunting around 11:00 p.m. when she spotted the humongous swamp dragon. The 16-year-old Hali said that all three family members got a hook into the gator and that they all shared the chore of pulling him close enough to the boat where he could be shot. Hali was vague on who actually shot the reptile, but adamant that a 12 foot alligator is big!

Lawsuit Aims to Halt Minnesota Wolf Hunt-6

    by

With its neighbor Wisconsin already locked in a wolf hunting lawsuit, Minnesota is now entering its own legal battle over Canis lupus.

Two anti-hunting groups, The Center for Biological Diversity and Howling for Wolves, are suing Minnesota in hopes of stopping a wolf hunt that is planned for Nov. 3. The groups argue that the state did not offer a long enough public comment period before announcing the hunt.

This from MPR News: "They say the DNR did not provide enough time for public comment before setting up the wolf season. The groups want the Minnesota Court of Appeals to stop the season until there's a decision on the case.

Wolves were taken off the endangered species list in Minnesota earlier this year and the state Legislature authorized a wolf hunt after a public comment period."

Fisherman Lost at Sea for 15 Weeks, Claims He was Rescued by a Shark-4

    by

A Kritibati policeman was rescued by a shark last week after being adrift at sea for 15 weeks.

Toakai Teitoi’s incredible ordeal began on May 27 when he flew from his island home of Maiana to the Kiribati (an island in the tropical Pacific) capital of Tarawa to be sworn in as a police officer. After the ceremony Mr. Teitoi took in a movie that depicted the true story of four Kiribati men who had been lost at sea for six weeks. Only two of the men survived the ordeal. Ironically, the following day would find Teitoi living the experience of the movie he had just seen.

On May 28 Teitoi began his journey home in the company of his brother-in-law Ielu Falaile. The two men boarded their 15-foot wooden boat with the intention of fishing during the two-hour trip back to Maiana. After fishing a short while the two men took a midday nap. When they awoke they could no longer see land. Efforts to find land ended with them expending all of their fuel.
