World Record? Hmmmmm.....

November 10, 2009
World Record? Hmmmmm..... - 18

The internet is burning up with reports of the "new" world record whitetail. The stud 12-pointer apparently tallied a gross green score of 217 5/8 which puts it as the new No. 1 for both P&Y and B&C. The hunter, Michael Gregoire of Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin, shot the 240-pounder last week.

Great buck, Mike. The heartiest of congratulations. World record? We're rooting for you, but...well, we've been down this road a few too many times to embrace an early score. What do you guys think it  might score? Better than Milo Hanson's buck? Or how about Mel Johnson's long-standing P&Y record? We'd love to hear your thoughts.

That is a very nice buck, Mike.
Get it officially measured after the 60 day waiting period and lets see what you've got. None of these self-serving proclamations that the animal "must" be the new WR! Lets see an official score!

It looks like there are a few deductions on that rack. Hope I'm wrong, because I'm not an official scorer. Good luck, hope it comes off.

Gerry asked what we thought and all anyone can say is "let's wait and see"? How about some guesses, guys? Sheesh.

I'm going to guess a net score of 204 B&C (give or take). Could very well edge out the Johnson buck, but I think the Hanson buck is safe...for now. This rack's got incredible mass, but it appears to lack both the tine length and the width of Milo's. Anyone else care to go on the record?

Mike,
Congratulations on an awesome deer! World record or not, this is beyond a once in a lifetime buck. It looks like the main beams carry a LOT of mass and from what I can see in the picture there don't seem to be too many deductions. If it green scored 217 5/8 and there's less than 10 inches of deductions, wow, this could be it!

It is all going to depend on the g2 on the right side if it will even been close to the world record or not. From what I gather the g2 on the right side is somewhat split with the g3. Some experts are saying one split tine while others are saying two tines g2 and g3. If they are not both a formation of the main beam, this buck will score as non-typical which will not be close to a world record. None-the-less what a huge freak of a Whitetail.

One thing for certain the buck has exceptional mass which will greatly increase the net score. From just one picture and its angle there is no way of knowing how well the right side matches the left side visable if the photo. Just because there may be a common base on the g-2 and g-3 does not make it a non typical. IF that is the case it could be counted as a non typical point and deducted from the typical score. The only limiting factor with this rack that you can see is tine length. I dont believe there is enough to challenge Milo's world record. However it should exceed 200 inches if side to side measurements matches fairly well.

I dont think so. Its a big buck without a doubt, But the other records are much larger frame wise. Its got crazy fat beams but i think it will fall short of taking the top spot... GREAT BUCK EITHER WAY!!!

I dont see it edge it out, There has been deer much wider and larger shown on outdoorlife.com that havent taken the top spot,I'm thinking tho its hard to say from the picture that the rack doesnt have the sive to get those point that the other bucks have I'd roughly say its spread is 20-25in maybe a bit more, again hard to say for the photo

WR? Maybe, who cares, still a fantastic once in a lifetime buck!! Congrats Mike! I'ld trade my left nut for a chance at a whopper like that no matter what the score.

this is a nice deer, but unfortunately i don't think it will net over 185 typical. has no tine length and will proably end up in the nontypical category.
