Abu Garcia Morrum ZX: The Round Reel Revival - 0

The round reel might be making a comeback in the bass fishing world. Last year Shimano introduced the Calcutta 200D, a low-profile baitcaster/round reel hybrid. Now Abu Garcia, the maker of the original round reel (Ambassadeur 5000) is introducing its Morrum ZX.

The reel is made for bass fishermen who want a modern reel with all the bells and whistles packaged in an old-school design. It's compact and light (7.3 ounces), thanks to its carbon fiber handle and machined aluminum frame and sideplates. It has a gear ratio of 6.3:1.

The reel looks cool and it casts baits in a wide range of weights with ease. But, it's wicked expensive. The Swedish-made reel will retail for $499.

At this price point, the Morrum is a legacy reel. It's a novelty item for hardcore bass anglers to show off to their buddies and to pass down to their kids. Hopefully, round reels are still in vogue by then.

More features
- 10 stainless steel HPCR bearings + 1 roller bearing

-Carbon Matrix drag system

-Infinitely Variable Centrifugal Brake (IVCB-IV™) gives very precise brake adjustments allowing anglers to cast a wide variety of baits

-Infini II™ spool design for extended castability and extreme loads

The perfect spot to use the Morrum ZX? Why Lake El Salto, of course.
