What Is It? - 14
by Gerry Bethge
Fishing buddy Capt. Devlin Roussel just e-mail me a photograph of this ugly beast caught on a jig in the Gulf the other day. Care to guess the species? Sure makes a great addition to our gallery of uglies... |

For species, I'm going with a hybrid... anorexic sailfish crossed with barracuda and morray eel.
that is a strange looking fish for sure.
I've seen that fish before but I don't know what it is. It's not a sailfish--it doesn't have a bill.
Here Thar Be Serpeants
My best guess is that it's the unholy spawn of a dime store guppy and Kermit the Frog.
its a vampire eel you guys see the teeth on that thing!
Somebody is playing with you. Not that anybody ever sends spoofs to Outdoor Life!!!!
That is a longnose lancetfish:

twags:
Thanks for the ID on this gruesome looking fish. You know, it looks like some of those weird fish that are found at thousands of feet beneath the sea by deep-sea explorers.
Nice work Mr. Wagner. We'd send you some fishing gear as a prize, but after winning the Grand Slam Africa trip, I'm not really sure that you're eligible for more prizes. :-)
Looks to me like Sigourny Weaver has a new co-star.
You guys been fishing behind the Nuclear power plant again? ;)
This is a lesser Eastern Toebiter.
I think i would have tok the gaff and beat it off the hook .I learned my lesson of putting toothy critters in the boat still breathing.
looks like a fish i caught from a bridge down around dayton florida
