Carter Wants Your Guns

Carter Wants Your Guns - 13

Ever since Obama took office the New York Times has been engaging in a full-court press on its op-ed pages to get some new type of gun control legislation passed.

In today’s paper they have former president Jimmy Carter calling for an “assault weapons” ban. Curiously absent from Carter’s column are any statistics connecting assault weapons to gun deaths in general—for the simple reason that they are only used in a miniscule number crimes in this country.

I don't know how many of you remember the disaster that was the Carter presidency. He gave away the Panama Canal, endangering American Security, Hugged on Yasser Arafat, the greatest Terrorist(note the capital T) and sold America down into the morass of the Middle East. We can thank Carter for the situation in Iran as that is a direct result of his wanting to be friends with people who even then thought it was the will of Allah to kill all American Infidel dogs.
He even beat a bunny rabbit to death with an oar when it attacked his fishing boat (Yes, it's true) but did not want to make the Iranians angry after the onset of the Tehran hostage crisis. Carter allowed the Shah of Iran to be deposed by his failure to provide support the US had promised.
At least 8 men died because he wanted to use Navy Choppers for the mission so the Navy could take part in the rescue attempt. The particular chopper used was a poor choice for the mission and one had a meltdown resulting in the deaths of 8 very brave Americans.
That mission was led by Col Charles Beckwith a true American hero. Col Beckwith is said by those who were there to have wept at the death of those men. The Col. is gone now, God rest his soul.
To this day, and forevermore, I blame Carter for the wanton death of those men. I do NOT consider him worthy to be called Mr. President but the law says we have to . I think he betrayed his country for political gain. His Nobel peace prize can burn with him in...
Well, you get the idea, I am not fond of him in the least.
For those of you that are new, I am shy about saying what I think. ;)

6phunter,
Carter was the reason the Ayatollah got into power, he had been in exile and good ol' JC put pressure on the Shah to let Khomeini back from exile in Paris. The end result was that JC "realized" the Shah was not perfect and since he believed in "moral equivalencies" he withdrew promised support to the Shah who was deposed by the radical Islamists who now control Iran today. They recognized his lack of personal courage and integrity, looked him in the eye as they spit in his face.
If JC is going to be consistent, he needs to realize that he committed the moral equivalent of genocide in Iran by opening the door for the Ayatollah (who even then was calling America the Great Satan).
Every day the American hostages spent in captivity can only be the responsibility of JC's arrogance and incompetence. Arrogance because, in his proud "humility", he thought he could bring peace to an area of the world that has not had peace in 4,000 years. Incompetence because he was a bumbling fool, ready to sacrifice his country in his desire to be thought of as a courageous peacemaker, not even understanding his own lack of insight and ability. He could not see he was being used by people who were truly evil.
Giving aid and comfort to the enemy is called treason in the Constitution, and JC, I believe, was a party to treason for his actions. I am afraid that BO is right up there with him.
We will just have to wait until they face the Final Judgment. That is one court from which there is no one appeal.

I dont think they need to have their hands on our guns! Like the article says, assault rifles are used very rarely in robberies and murders. I think they want to go after assault rifles because it will look good in the press. First of all, the words "Assault Rifle" makes many people think about angry terrorists with AK-47's. Many people also align these words with gang violence and organized crime. Maybe in Central America there is a huge assault rifle usage but in the US it is much less. Most firearms that are used in attacks in the US are handguns. I do not think they need to take away handguns, but it makes more sense than talking away assault rifles. The government just needs something to make it look like they are making some headway on crime. If they ban "assault rifles", the general public will think that some headway has been made to fight organized crime. It is all just political and media mumbo-jumbo. It is pointless.

I should fail to be amazed by the one sided, ignorant opinions posted here. If you don't like Carter, fine. If you don't want your guns taken away, or refuse to have them taken as I do, fine. However, before everyone starts remembering the Carter era for its failures- and there were many, do not forget certain things. 1. We were not plunged into the middle east any more or less during the Carter Admin. We were already dependent upon that region as an energy source. 2. At the time, Col. Beckwith was frustrated by previous administrations for their lack of responsiveness to the worldwide terrorism problem, especially in Europe, and had asked to create anti-terror military units like Delta Force. Carter helped to pave the way for its creation. He also actually attempted a rescue attempt which unfortunately failed. What did Reagan do about this? He traded arms with the Iranians in order to bring the hostage home. Let's not kill them and retake our embassy, let's broker an illegal deal that eventually puts weapons into their hands. The Shah of Iran was a despicable man who undermined American interests in that country, but we supported him anyway.
What is the real issue here? The Assault Weapons Ban is a joke- made up by politicians to actually seem like it has teeth. What is its real purpose anyway?

Partisan politics even among supposed hunters and gun owners. Delusional thinking that their side doe less to harm gun rights...its all political games..to find ways to make money off the exercise of our rights. One side scares the ones that fear guns in the hands of citizens and the other side trumpets the fears that the other side will take all the guns away...a macabre little dance y people on both sides of the aisle that think all laws only apply to the little common people like we voters.

COhunter, You've been drinking MSM koolaid. The Shah was not a nice guy, but he did not not cause as many deaths of women and minority groups in Iran as the Ayatollah did. And the arrival of the new Islamic regime did more to destabilize the entire Middle East than any other event as it enabled an entire Islamic sect to dictate that it was permissible to kill people just because they were the wrong flavor or they insulted the prophet Mo-what's his face. It also did more to undermine American interests than anything else in Middle Eastern history. There were more cases of torture for religious reasons, therefore allowed because the UN is a collaboration of Eunuchs, in Iran than under the Shah. I know people who fled Iran when the Islamic extremists took over because they were the wrong flavor of Muslims. As far as Reagan trading arms for the hostages, let's see they were released about the time the inauguration ceremonies ended, and Bush's imaginary meeting with the Iranians to trade arms for hostages was just that- imaginary.
The mission to rescue failed because because Carter wanted to use Navy Choppers which were not adequate for the trip. But when Carter was told the Army birds were better he still wanted Navy involved. That is why the mission failed.
I say this because Carter does not have the interest of the American people in his heart, he only wants a legacy other than being the worst president of the 20th Century.

Isn't it a little ironic that Carter wasn't as visible during the mortgage and housing crisis?

Anyways, back to the topic...Carter is just becomming senile and should just be seen as a once powerful man that is taking interest in agendas that give him the most attention.
