Caption Contest: What Does This Cave Engraving Mean? - 19

We found this petroglyph earlier this month in a cave above Idaho's Middle Fork Salmon River.

The cave art was probably rendered by a member of the Sheepeaters—the band of Western Shoshone that specialized in hunting bighorns—at least 150 years ago. Is it a cry for help from a cave-bound spouse, waiting for her brave to return? Or a hunter recounting the rams he has killed? Write the most imaginative caption you can in the comments section. The best entry will win a Gerber field knife sharpener.

Contest ends October 31.

He went hunting how many days ago? Not back yet and I still have to run the stupid sheep into the catch pen!

The meaning is perfectly clear because the same thing happened to me. His wife told him he can't go hunting the week of the rut because he has to stay home and paint the babies room. I about crapped in my pants too.

I told my pregnant wife that she sounds like the bighorn I shot last week...this is how many days I've been sleeping outside our cave.

With a big ram in the background, a Sheepeater with curved arms held up and out wide is telling a story of how huge the horns are on a ram he saw. He also depicts himself wearing a loincloth with a bulge in the back, because he is also telling the story on how he crapped himself when he saw the ram's huge horns.

Its rack was this big. Is that in the BC record book? That would make my 77th buck to date.

since our tribe are close friends with the sheep eaters, I could de-code that for you, It says= "I was up here hunting sheep and I jumped a monster buck, that thing had to be 40 inches wide"

Thank God you found that painting in Idaho, and not Wyoming!

(For those of you that don't know, there is a saying: Wyoming, where the men are men and the sheep are scared)

:)
