PETA Pushes to Ban Hunting Magazine Sales to Minors - 10

Last month British retailer WHSmith banned the sale of hunting and shooting magazines to anyone younger than 14 in its 1200 stores. The company caved under pressure from the UK's largest animal rights group, and now PETA is pushing for a similar ban in the U.S.

In a letter to the Hudson Group last week, PETA's executive vice president Tracy Reiman urged the newsstand company to not sell hunting magazines to anyone under the age of 18.

Reiman states outright that hunting magazines encourage violent behavior in young people. She also attempts to link hunting with school shootings and compares sporting magazines to pornography. Reiman even asked Hudson to move hunting magazines next to adult publications like Playboy and Penthouse so they are "out of young people's reach and sight."

"Like other forms of casual or thrill violence, hunting spawns a dangerous desensitization to the suffering of others," Reiman writes. "…In this era of escalating violence, it is irresponsible and downright dangerous to allow kids access to magazines that promote killing for 'fun.'"

If you want to send Hudson's president & CEO Joespeh DiDomizio your own letter urging him to ignore PETA, email him at jdidomizio@hudsongroup.com.

That is ridiculous, Hunting is our heritage and it should be passed on to younger generations not the opposite. Publication on it should not be banned. If banned, kids will begin to think that hunting is taboo. We need to protect our past times and traditions, PETA (cityfolk) are way too extreme.

I wonder if male members of PETA only approach their wives and girlfriends from the rear participating in doggie-style sex to promote their love of animals?

Hi...

And I thought that the fruitcakes only came out around the Holidays...!!

Ya gotta watch out for them though, they're against anything that doesn't meet their Puritanical standards.

And...so I've been wondering...are they REALLY in hot water over some of their legal battles...??

You know what has been PROVEN to cause a "desensitization to violence"? Violent video games, which are, unfortunately, much more popular among today's youth than hunting and the outdoors.
But do you hear PETA calling for a crackdown on the use of them by minors? Nope. Hmmmm, almost makes you wonder if PETA actually cares about the kids.

Many people dismiss organizations like PETA and the radical extremists who run them or join them as "jokes." They are no joke. They are relentlessly motivated and push to define their extremism as the "new normal" often by using distortions or heart-grabbing sound bite fragments until the unceasing beat of their drums slowly legitimizes them. There is no correlation between viewing hunting magazines or encouraging the practice of hunting with violent behavior. In most cases it does the opposite. Violence against fellow humans is promoted primarily in movies, television, video games and music but the silence of groups like PETA with regard to this is only broken by the sounds of crickets.

PETA is such a joke. That is one way to make our future generations hopeless. No kids will be able to feed their families or even stand up for themselves. I would argue that more and more young people NEED to read hunting/fishing magazines so they understand life in general. GET OUT IN THE WOODS YOUNG FELLOWS, AS IT'S RIFLE SEASON!!!
