It’s iPhone app Monday here on the Strut Zone...
Back in the 20th Century this would have been science fiction. Not now.
If you haven’t heard, by definition an “app” is slang for an application — usually a small, specialized program downloaded onto mobile devices. And now turkey hunters have one available.
The official NWTF Turkey Hunting Toolbox offers these features in one phone app:
—12 live turkey sounds.
—Access to dozens of turkey hunting tips.
—Calling tip videos from champion turkey callers.
—The app calculates the score of a turkey based on the NWTF Wild Turkey Records official requirements.
—Links to every state wildlife agency for hunting regulations.
—The app’s wild turkey range map can help hunters find where each subspecies lives.
—Exclusive NWTF turkey ringtones are also part of the deal.
No Internet connection is needed. Want it? Need it? Search for “NWTF Toolbox” in iTunes or in the App Store on your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch. The app, only $1.99, was created in cooperation with www.HuntGeek.com. Word is the NWTF (www.nwtf.org) and HuntGeek are exploring an Android version.
I’m a steady user of apps while turkey hunting: weather, maps, compass, and of course messages and mail to stay connected in portable office mode. Do you Strut Zoners use apps to help you hunt better?

The boy and I are headed out the 21st of April for a week. As far as electronics, I use Google Earth a lot. It is an amazing free tool. It helps me learn the lay of the land if I am not familiar with it and it helps my memory as I can use it to mark where I have seen activity and such.
Hey Pat. Thanks for the update. Good to hear from ya here on the SZ.
I believe the sounds are from Denny Gulvas's new CD which will be coming out within the year,....it is incredible.
Just got word today they'll have it available sooner than later. Stay tuned, cjohnsrud. When are you gettin' on the big birds?
I will have to wait for the Android version.
P.S. At the moment, I've got a quacking duck as an iPhone ringtone. "Duck!" my turkey buds like to bark at me. May need to finally man up with a gobble.
