i'm new to flyfishing. i got a cheap 5 weight outfit from cabelas and i figured out how to use poppers for bass but have no clue how to fish anything in moving water for rainbow trout. ive tried fishing nymphs, streamers, and dry flies but i honestly have no clue what im doing. any tips? it aint gotta be pretty if it catches fish.
Welcome aboard !! you have chose a very fun and rewarding hobby that will allow you to get good with some help in only a few months but it will take you a lifetime to master. First, I need to know where you plan on flyfishing for trout ? Also I will need to have your email if you would like my help after OL removes this thread.
north georgia. i'll get u a email address later.
Dear Toms nephew first try and throw tight loops with only with a small amount of line out and then increase the line until you make consisten cast with 30 feet + lineout. you need this for dryflying. Never break your wrist past the 10 oclock position FWD and the 2 oclock position AFT ( backcast ) and keep your elbow tight against your body. these tips will help you shoot line farther, make light presentations of your fly in order not to spook the trout and allow you to fish all day without getting wore out. It doesnt hurt to turn sideways and look at your loop on occassion when your beginning until you get the feel of the line loading behind you, and know when to start your fwd. momenum.
next youll only need about ten given patterns ( flys ) for your fly box . dont get caught up in all the hoopla of having several colors of every fly variation. the ten flys i will give you will allow to to catch trout in almost any given scenario. Once you master that rod you might wanna consider investing a few hundred in a real nice rod you can use for life. Sage, St.Croix, Reddington to name a few have great rods for a good investment, once you throw a med. class to high class rod youll never wanna go back to the cheaper rod. they just throw so much sweeter !!!
hey Trophy hunter can you post a list of those ten flies . im also new to flyfishing and need to know what flies to get.thanks
