Does anybody trap anymore I don't hear anything about trapping if you trap post a comment. I would like to see some stories or articles about trapping in Outdoor Life.
For the amount of time and work you do, the money you get from pelts is not enough. From what I can tell the only real trapping is to remove nusiance animals. Thats the reason I trap beavers, they can be quite destructive...erosion of stream banks etc. It is pretty fun though...makes me feel like a mountain man!! So far it hasnt impressed any girls though.
true bongo its not really worth spending so much money on the trapping eguipment then go out get little to nothing for your hard work but then again if you trap for relaxation then go for it it can be fun to set traps to see what you catch id say if i were to trap id do it it on a fun not to make money.
ya trapping is stil going in SE oklahoma, some do it for the pelts and sell them, & predator hunt-i mainly do it though around calf feeders when the coons start digging out alot of feed, or somthin gets in the chickens...
My whole family still traps, that being myself, my two brothers and my dad. We live near a large swamp sytem in ohio and consistentyl catch 400-500 muskrats and 200 coon a year, pick up a few fox and coyotes and maybe 30 mink too. Still my favorite activity. Quite a few trappers in the area too,but you don't hear much about it in most outdoor magazines. As far as teh money goes you can make a few extra bucks with a fur prices making a slight comeback in the last few years, but its still hit or miss every year
i love to trap just for fun i opereate 300 traps on 1,000 acres of land wiht help from 3 or 4 guys it takes a long time so we keep the traps close and 1 single year we made 500 dollars and the traps on cost 100 dollars t operate so it is defiantely worht a try
Good to hear people are still trapping I run a small line on my land but I'm actually fairly new to trapping my grandpa got me into it. He trapped the same land since he was about 8 until he got disabled. But there dosen't seem to be as many animals around compared to what he tells me used to be there.
I trap raccoons and opossum for varmint control to give the turkey eggs a better chance to hatch. I've trapped beaver in the past and will do so again if they show up on my property--their flooding and girdling can kill a lot of timber. I'll leave the trapping of skunks to someone better qualified than I am.
me and my friend trap together. i just started a couple of years ago so im still learning. last year i we caught a couple of coon muskrats and my first beaver. im 13 and he's 12 but his grandpa is a expert trapper and he teaches us a lot. ill definitely be trapping in the futcher.

I've thought about getting my trapping license and maybe doing a small line this year. I know a few people that do it every year though.
