Hunting

Relieving oneself while hunting

. Uploaded on February 13, 2009

I have observed many hunters who are almost paranoid about their scent as far as their clothes, boots, gear, etc. who, when answering nature's call become completely oblivious to the fact that urine and feces smell and you can't dig a hole deep enough to conceal that smell. Cover scents, IMO, only call attention to that deposit. That being said, several years ago, I purchased a product from I think it was Sportsman's Guide, called Restop 1. I have NO financial interest in this. It's a small bag that is easy to carry and you deposit liquids in it and it binds the liquid into a gel. It's easy to carry out and toss into any trash receptacle, and no environmental impact. I highly recommend this product. You can learn more at http://whennaturecalls.com/

If you ever need to go to relieve yourself that badly you can walk a good distance away dig your hole and do your business, though if you are extremley committed to your stand that waste bag would be quite useful.

I keep an empty 20oz gatorade bottle in my jacket, and it usually holds enough liquid to go twice....works well for me.

When I fist started hunting bears in Canada the guide had old antifreeze bottles in the stands. We told him he needed to change bottles because the opening were too small. Now I just don't have anything to drink for several hours prior to sitting in a stand and if I'm going to be there all day I grab a ziplock bag.

Anyone seen the number of times deer will walk past your stand after you urinate on the ground? Seen it happen more times than just a few. How does a deer tell that its human urine on the ground anyhow? If they dont spook from a fresh gutpile and walk right by it hours later, why would urine spook them?

Well....I've heard a few but Hot or Cold Ice T works best for the old #1 as it leaves a different scent in the air. In the #2 scenario I have actually been squating over the old log (almost done) and have had deer show up and..........damn, can't reach my rifle...............

Game, especially deer, will spook at the scent of human SWEAT but tests have shown urine & feces do not have a similar effect. Having nature call will not spook most game. That said, I still tend not to do my business at a stand I will be reusing. I "refill" a disposable water bottle if necessary. It's cheap, simple — and it works.
