Depends on what kind of rifle, A Remington 700 with synthetic stock can be found at Academy for $400, A Mossberg ATR with synthetic at about $300. A gun like Kimber or Weatherby will cost a lot more.
If price is your only consideration go to places like WalMart or Academy. But be forewarned, you will probably not get a lot of reliable information from the people who work there. Even Bass Pro doesn't always get people who know anything about guns or hunting. I called Bass Pro to find some Ammo and was told they didn't carry .44 Magnum ammo only .44 Remington Magnum Ammo. Good Luck and good hunting.
I agree with Bo. If you have a reputable local gun shop I recommend you visit there. They will know which ones are good and which ones have come back to them with problems.
I recently bought a Marlin XL7 at BassPro for around $280, it shoots well. Have taken two deer with it this season. WalMart want over $400 for the same gun. Good luck and good shooting.
Ahhh! The joys of hunting for a new rifle! As mentioned above there are plenty of decent new rifles at a reasonable price these days. Your choice of such popular calibers means there will be one on the shelf in most gun shops. Don't discount the used gun market. A higher quality gun with a few character blemishes may be had for the same amount or less than the new economy model. Bright and shiny is nice but I'll take the beat up gun if it is more accurate - that is ultimately what it is all about ---hitting the target! Own enough guns and you will come to the same conclusion, only the accurate guns are keepers.
