Purchases based on OL gear tests. Good or bad results?

. Uploaded on August 18, 2009

I would like to hear about any gear that was purchased based on a Outdoor Life recommendation and whether or not the gear lived up to that Recommendation. I recently used outdoor life gear tests to decide on a new bass rod. Having a limited budget I purchased a rod that was in last years gear test and reel from this years best buy award. The were a st. croix bass mojo rod and a bass pro shop Johnny Morris reel. When I went to Bass pro to buy them they were both on sale and only ended up costing me a $180. I set the rod up with some braided line and hit the bass pond I fish almost every day. Within an hour i had made casts that my previous rod would have laughed at me for even trying. I also caught 5 bass, one of which was the largest I had ever caught in this pond at about 4.5 lb (the pond is only about a .5 acre). So thank you OL for great gear tests that fit my budget.
