Welcome to Outdoor Life
Whitetail Deer
Ok.... what are they antlers or horns? For years I was told Whitetail Deer had antlers and not horns. I was told they were Antlers if the were shed every year and horns if they didn't. In the past two years I've noticed more and more outdoor show personalities calling them horns. Is there new research I'm not aware of or were we all wrong for years and didn't know it.
they are called antlers but i think most people think it is easier to say horns so that is why they do it or people when they are young are told anything coming from an animals head are horns
thers nothin scientific to it ya callem wat ya call em its just a shorter word
I'm not 100% on this, but i believe antlers are bone/calcium, and horns are made from hair(antelope horns) I actually pulled a horn off of a eruropean mounted antelope and there is a bone base underneath them.
I call them antlers, don't if it's right or not, just the way I was raised.
You ARE CORRECT!!! Antlers (deer, elk, moose, etc)are shed
horns (cows,sheep,buffalo) are not!!
most of the TV personalities are IDIOTS!!!!!
only deer, moose, and elk would be considered to have antlers but cows and steer have horns
ohmygosh how hillbilly do they get IT CALLED ANTLERS
well all in all cows have horns deer have antlers and some people have horns lol
i call them antlers but most call them horns becuase they grow up knowing cow horn orpig horn
One admires antlers...and rattles horns.
Call em what you want but the facts are these.
Antlers fall off every year- (Deer, Moose, Elk, Etc.)
Horns grow year around- (Sheep, Mtn. Goats, Antalope, Steers).
Oh, COWS DON'T HAVE EITHER.
Hope this helps.
I have used both terms in reference to deer/i'm definity interested if you use the term big ,
Both, Down south they call em' horns. Up north Antlers.
Dofends on where I'm hunting.
Excuse me "DEPENDS"
There called antlers not horns. Horns dont not fall off antlers do.
Some call my State Missoura, I call it Missouri. In Feb. I hunt the woods for shed antlers, not the farmers bull pen for shed horns.
Antlers , not horns.
I'm glad someone straightened out the "cows" not having horns. I think this topic is covered though.
sorry tuesday stine but in my opinion your not a true missouin if you dont call it missoura
they are antlers
My friends say the same thing because horns are easier to say but they are antlers
Or what my 6 year old sister says, "Antleers"! Nope, it's antlers.
I call them antlers
