So I was wondering what people carry in their standard first aid kits. It's definitely key to keep the weight of the overall kit down, but without compromising the effectiveness of the kit to deal with situations. Having worked in the outdoors on several occasions and in areas where immediate medical care is limited I've seen quite a few different kits. Aside from the basics like antiseptic, gauze, spare medications, etc... what do you carry in your first aid kit to deal with situations?
i usually have some string, leatherman, and a needle with like 4lb fishing string
Cobalt has it right. The fishing line I use is spiderwire as it can be used as string or thread and the needle I have is one of those curved ones. Anything useful but lightweight works. I carry a couple of tampons in mine (internal and external)
they work great for blood absorbtion and the internal ones are great for puncture wounds for absorbtion and the expansion to actually seal the puncture. I also carry a heavy duty exacto knife
for "finesse" work and fast cutting.
