Survival

Learning to survive out in the wilderness.

. Uploaded on March 04, 2009

For those who are interested in survival training and don't plan on going the military route, which I personally endorse(and yeah, I am biased, but I know it), here are some links that may help you get started in your search. Some of these I am very familiar with, either personally or from people I know who have survived them (OK, bad joke) Others are known to me by reputation. I am not affiliated with any these courses.
http://www.equipped.com/srvschol.htm there are multiple links on this site.
http://www.wisesurvival.com/index.shtml I spent some time with Papa Bear Whitmore, the originator of this program many years ago, when I had hair and it was dark. (That was a long time ago.) Papa Bear is no longer with us, God rest his soul, but his legacy lives on with this program. God knows how many lives he helped to save with his words of instruction and wisdom.
This is not an all inclusive list, I know there are others but I don't have first or second hand knowledge of many of the others. Because I have not listed one doesn't mean it should be overlooked, so do some research on your own.
I highly recommend some kind of formal training in wilderness survival. Most courses cover things that many people have never thought about before going out to the wilds and they will equip you to go out and, more importantly, come back. Success usually takes planning.
Stuff happens. In the Army we used to say "If the mission is going exactly as planned, you're just too early in the mission" Also "the easy way is always mined" Remember Mr. Murphy was a optimist.

For Hunters and shooters, a little urban survival would be nice. So many of the gadgets and guns we love to use to pursue our sport, are the big game of street criminals. Your locked and alarmed vehicle does little to stop a crook from breaking the glass to get the GPS/Laptop and guns that you left behind while in the Motel or restaurant. Those stickers of pridefull membership and gun ownership draw the persons that will take and trade your prized guns for a little cash for drugs or alcohol. And everyone has heard that people get their motel rooms or vehicles broken into while attending sporting shows. Plan to Survive the urban jungle as well as you plan to survive the wilderness.

I am a person raised on the Miss.River shooting the heads off pulldo's for stew cooked on a fire on the river bank .The only thing i know about the military survival is through media but it is short term by all means .What i see coming is a long term survival situation not one where you have to get out of the swamp but go to the swamp and live. Not in the urban jungle you will want to elimate as much contact with the outside .If prepared correctly a man can grow and obtain from the wild all that is needed.
