Q:How are everyone's turkey seasons going? I harvested a nice gobbler with my bow 5 minutes into my first hunt of the year. It was one of those rare textbook hunts that makes archery turkey hunting seem so easy that you'd think any idiot should be able to walk out into the woods with their bow and kill one immediately. He flew down, I made two series of yelps, and he walked right up to my decoys and attacked them. I had to hold at full draw for quite a while while he was jumping up and down on my jake decoy, but I eventually got a shot, and hit him almost perfectly. He only made it maybe 75 yards before expiring. Not sure if it was a 2 or 3 year old - he weighed 23 pounds, and had 7/8" spurs. Amazingly, 10 minutes after I shot the gobbler a big coyote came into the field, and I shot it. Unfortunately, I misjudged the range, and didn't hit the yote well, so I wasn't able to recover it. There was good blood for close to 1/3 of a mile, but I eventually jumped it out of a brushpile, and wasn't able to get another shot.
