In total, 343,110 deer were bagged and tagged, an increase of about 7,000 from 2011. Since 2005, deer populations and deer harvests in most Wildlife Management Units (WMUs) have remained stable. This is good news.
Many factors worked in favor of Wisconsin deer hunters last year to produce another excellent year, including the earliest possible gun opener on the calendar, good rut activity during firearm season, and the fact that at least 90 percent of the agricultural crops were harvested by mid-November.
