What Gun Killed Osama bin Laden?
What gun was used to take out Osama Bin Laden? We have a Special Forces soldier weigh in.
Tom Beckstrand is a former Special Forces soldier who has served in both Iraq and Afghanistan. On Sunday night Navy SEAL Team Six took off from Afghanistan, crossed the Pakistan border and dropped in on Osama bin Laden's massive compound hideout. The SEALs engaged in a violent firefight, killing bin Laden and three of his men. After extracting the body and sweeping the house for information, they were back in the air after just 40 minutes. None of the SEALs were injured or killed during the mission. Here's an in-depth look at the guns SEALs carry into close-quarters battle. In my opinion, one of these guns took out the world's most wanted man. AdvertisementADVERTISEMENTAdvertisement |

Always haters out there. You may not like (even hate) our President, but give credit where it is due. The seal team did a fantastic job. They deserve a lot of the credit. You also need to give credit to the people who trained them. Give credit to the people working in the intelligence area who came up with BinLaden's locataion and, yes, also to our President who gave the order to go after BinLaden. Do you think that some group of seals simply decided on their own to go get BinLaden? I am sure that Sigmun is one of those people of believes that our President is a muslim, a socialist, etc... If that were the case, our President could have simply decided not to really pursue BinLaden by not giving the go-ahead. In fact our President wanted to make sure we would have evidence of the death of BinLaden and actually said no to an earlier plan to just drop a huge bomb on a location where BinLaden was. He said that even if we had killed BinLaden that way, there would be all the disbelievers who would say that there was no proof that BinLaden was killed and that it was all for political gain. Well, not only did the President give the go-ahead, he also made sure that there would be incontrovertible proof of BinLaden's death.
Funny how the haters just don't want to give the Commander in Chief his due.
It is that same President that many said would not be able to handle the 3:00 am phone call who got the Somali pirates (and freed their hostages) and who got BinLaden. I'm sure that if this had all happened under George W. Bush you'd be screaming "hail to the chief".
Saying that the President had nothing to do with it shows how deep your hatred for the man is.
The M-4 isn't the ancestor of the M-16. It is quite the opposite.
According to eBay capitalism it was the US Navy Seal special MK-18 Rifle. A search on Google for the Gun that killed Osama or Usama Bin Laden turns up already. laden They're already immortalizing it in resin 1/4 scale on eBay lol!

Whoever really shot him doesn't own the weapon. It belongs in the museums or archives. Like it or not that is one piece of hardware for history.
I have to agree with deerhunterrick, the gun used does not matter. What does matter is that an evil man has been put tp rest and can no longer cause harm to the world. You cannot say this often, but Usama bin Laden was a man that truly deserved to die. God bless America!
it was a sig p226 9mm pistol
A buddy with connections with JTTF (Joint Terrorism Task Force) indicated that he had heard that they went in in local garb with Kalashnikov based weapons. This was done so that in the event that their extraction was compromised, they could melt into their surroundings until alternative extraction could be achieved. No idea if that's true or not, but it would be a smart move.
Who cares which load it was? It evidently functioned properly, and was aimed properly, rendering the appropriate result! Bravo Zulu again and again Team Six!
We are so lucky to have such a great military to keep us free. The brave men of seal team 6 did one hell of a job not just for us but for all the people we lost on 9 11, God Bless America.
Informative post, thanks for sharing!! I concur that the military has some of the BEST that this country has to offer, and I'm PROUD to call them Brother/Sister!! Nit-picking I know, but on #16, didn't you mean that the M-4 is a DESCENDANT of the good ol' M-16 I used, and not an ANCESTOR?
To be totally honest here, it really does'nt matter what gun was used. It was used by an AMERICAN HERO, it was loaded, well aimed,by well trained soldier from the Good old US of A. I'm just sorry we lost so many in the persuit of a PUNK that was afraid of his own shadow. He's standing in Judgement now, wonder what the last thing that went through his mind was. 70grains of 5.56 I hope.
Most likely some type of 5.56. Not sure which one. Who wouldn't have wanted to be in on that take down? Our men deserve all of the credit. BO had nothing to do with it. Great job.
I was told it was a 7.62 made by colt. I believe its the M901, I could be wrong on the numbers.
Way to go SEALS, our Service people are the best.
Ditto the Bravo Zulu!
We owe a huge debt of gratitude to Seal Team 6 for this op and to all those who have gone before and who train and stand ready for the next challenge!
guns don't kill terrorists...heros do! thanks to SEAL Team 6!
I'd bet an H-K MP-5/SD
Either way this evil person is dead. Taken out by the Seal's. Great job.
I can't believe you guys left out the sidearms. I know the SEALs use the SIG Sauer line of pistols. They probably went into the compound with rifles, breached the door and started popping with the canned SIG's. Either way, I am happy to know he is gone and that the Navy was the one to take him down. Bravo Zulu SEAL Team 6!
I'm just glad he's dead.
