it would appear that bear just came out of hibernation given the lenght of claw and condition of hide

I'm sure glad that little town made the news other then the unabomber! Nice little town i live over the mission range to the west we noticed the same about grizzly's starting to be evreywhere.

After viewing the photos of this great bear, lets hope that the Fish & Wildlife folks took it to a good taxidermist for a full body mount, which they could then display in that counties office for all to marvel at and enjoy for decades to come. Perhaps this huge speciman of 'Ursus Arctos Horribilis' is a descendant of "Old Mose", that most dreaded of all grizzly bears of the Old West...

I was driving through linoln at the time this bear was hit. I also live in MT a small town named Havre right off the milk river, a popular hunting spot for primos. I remember seeing the truck that hit it. It was litterally obliterated, the bear had pushed the front of the truck in. When I asked the driver what happened he said heck I dont know I hit something but my truck overheated so I turned around to see what it was.
