The hip belt is very comfortable even with heavy weight...moreso than my frame pack. It has a form fitting belt with a large butt pad that fits the small of your back, loading the weight directly to your skeletal frame.

Looks like you've built yourself a good one. Certainly plenty of room.
Some photos seem to show it being carried quite high, with possibly no weight on the hip belt. How does the hip belt feel with a lot of weight on it?
