OL Ranks the 20 Coolest Hollywood Archers
But she wasn't the first famous archer and she's definitely not the baddest either. We rank the 20 coolest silver Screen archers.
Katniss, the protagonist in mega block-buster The Hunger Games, has created a buzz about archery. Bow ranges around the country are reporting a bump in attendance, and there's extra interest among kids. While it's great that the Katniss character is getting young people interested in archery, she's not the first Hollywood archer and she's definitely not the coolest. Check out OL's ranking of the 20 coolest silver screen archers. AdvertisementADVERTISEMENTAdvertisement |

You missed Gina Davis, a fine actress who in real life was a semi-finalist for the US Olympic archery team.
Don't forget Perseus in the new movie IMMORTALS when he shoots 4 guys with 4 arrows at the same time with the Epirus Bow!
Hi...
You'r absolutely right...Howard Hill was a legend in his own time.
Imagine...taking Africa's big five with a bow...!!
Not just any ordinary bow...his had a 200-pound pull...and he knew how to use it...!!
And none of those "fancy" bows we see today...!! I forget if it was a long or recurved bow he used.
What about the incomparable (and real Hollywood archer) Howard Hill? Truly a legend.
Legolas riding the shield down the castle stairs with arrows whistling from his bow into the orcs is the best archery scene ever filmed. Rick246 has it right, it doesn't get any cooler than that!
Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't #14 - Daryl Dixon's bolt on the cross bow not nocked properly? I think it should be laying flat on the crossbow, not siting on the bottom of the sight!
Lewis wins.
On #16-Paris, you wrote "pretty boy Bloom shots pretty boy Brad Pitt with a bow", but I believe the CORRECT word should have been 'shoots', with TWO o's, no ONE...
What aout Geena Davis? I snagged this from wikipedia...an American actress, film producer, writer, former fashion model, and a women's Olympics archery team semi-finalist...her introduction to archery was in 1997, two years prior to her tryouts.
In July 1999, Davis was one of 300 women who vied for a semifinals berth in the US Olympic archery team to participate in the Sydney 2000 Summer Olympics. She placed 24th of 300 and did not qualify for the team, but participated as a wild-card entry in the Sydney International Golden Arrow competition. How many of us would try that after just two years of shooting?
Did we forget the man who "Robin-Hooded" his own arrow and shot 2 guys riding on horseback with 2 arrows at the same time! All that before he shot a hang-man's rope in 2 saving young Wulf from his demise! KEVIN COSTNER!!!!!!
I was hoping the article was about well known actors who were also avid archers. That would have been more interesting to see. Or maybe tell us if any of these actors who learned to shoot, continued with their archery in life.
shooting a crossbow does not make one an archer, and just shooting a bow for enjoyment and not for hunting does not make one a wimp.Nicholas Cage was great in "The Weatherman". I love to hunt, but get just as much enjoyment from stump shooting or 3d. What about Errol Flynn and a little known archer named Howard Hill from Robin Hood?
good one gayne
Id like to know the 20 coolest hollywood archers who are REAL archers not ones who play archers
I know this list is just for fun but, OL you can do far better, it is one thing to be calling this the list of the 20 best hollow wood archers but when you have imaginary creatures instead of real men like Robin Hood aka Flynn, Robin Hood aka Kevin Costner, Hawkeye aka Lee Horseley(who IS a real outdoorsman and archer) btw the Marvel character was based on Fenimore Cooper's character, just to name a few of the best archers from Hollow wood's make believe world.
I like Legolas a lot, but Errol Flynn and Kevin Costner are great. If this list gets redone/updated, list all of the Robin Hoods on a single list. And, leave the crossbows off.
But, this was a good idea. Thank you
Legolas was inspiring. I was interested in the equipment design and somewhat authenticity of bows, arrows and fletching in the Lord of the Rings and Narnia. Narnia hd some really kool arrow and fletch designs.
Richard Greene, Kevin Costner and Errol Flynn should be included in the Robin Hood list along with the late great Howard Hill (he made Flynn look like the greatest shot on earth).
Sorry, but this is a pretty dumb list. You can do better, OL.
Great list Gayne. Two, actually three, others to add to the list.
First, Mel Gibson in Braveheart, hunting the stag with a bow (a hunt interrupted by an attempt on his life), and then second (and third), Bo and Luke Duke from Dukes of Hazard fame. The only thing I really remember from the movie version (or a related video) was Jessica Simpson washing the General Lee, but in the old TV series, they wreaked havoc with their dynamite tipped bows!
What the Heck? Where are James Clavell's "Shogun" archers!
Directed by Jerry London. Starring Richard Chamberlain, Toshirô Mifune, Yôko Shimada, Frankie Sakai.
You missed the best one!
Legolas is way cooler than Rambo or Robin Hood.
