Great Innovations in Firearms
Innovative and intriguing design features blew away our test team during Outdoor Life's exclusive Firearms Test. Here's what caught our test team's eye and why.
![]() Usually found only on high-end custom rifles, the machined-steel hinged floor plate on the Remington Models 798 and 799, with release buttons situated in the trigger-guard bow, was something we especially liked. This convenient and stylish touch allows the hinged floor plate to spring open for quick and convenient unloading of the magazine box.

When your trigger is that light breathing technique is very important, when I first shot mine I was very supprised when the trigger pull was so light.
This is one of the reasons I really like having a set trigger. I know when the pull is going to be exceptionally light if I'm hunting varmints or predators and can still resort to a 2 1/2lb. trigger pull if I'm hunting coyotes in cold weather with gloves on.
I shoot a .17HMR Savage with an accutrigger and find it to be a real great little gun to shoot as well.
The set triger in my CZ550 just gives me the best of both worlds.
dang nice gun! i would love to get a gun like that someday
::::crammin stuff into the un safe:::arrrrggghhh man...NO Wait!!! :::sufflin off to order new gun safe::::: ooooo now i can buy more! like this one.
OK we have a fancy new trigger and a button for a floor plate release! If that is someone's idea of intriguing and innovative you need some perspective - try the local Toys R Us, Sears tool department or start reading Popular Mechanics. If you were "blown away" by these "eye catching" novelties you need to get out more. The local gunsmith is routinely working on more cutting edge stuff. How about a revolutionary action, a new system for handling recoil or a takedown version one of the old classics - that would qualify as eye catching.
