Made this in celebration of St. Paddy's Day, but didn't dare post the recipe until it was properly vetted--man, oh, man did I ever vet it this past weekend. It turned out awesome. Here's the recipe I used....
* 2 cups water
* 6 tablespoons curing mixture (e.g., Morton® Tender Quick®)
* 1/2 cup brown sugar
* 4 1/2 teaspoons pickling spice
* 1 tablespoon garlic powder
* 6 cups cold water
Hey Bo-----SWEET Buck brother! Congrats!
Wow----Cool story, Bo---have any photos? Upload them in the user photo section---would LOVE to get a look. Congrats!!!
Okay, here goes....It was opening day of firearms deer season and I had seen a couple of nice bucks in my hunting area, but nothing like the palmated, drop-tined giant a buddy of mine saw from my stand a couple days before the season opened.
I'm with Strake on this----the Primos stix...especially the new '09 model...is killer.
I love to icefish and yet it scares the hell out of me. I remember fishing a couple years ago with a good buddy who fell through even though the temperatures were below zero for three days and the ice thickness was more than a foot. And this was on a lake. Saw the story on the Lake Erie thing and that REALLY scares me to death. Soooooooo.....how do you guys read the ice?
Hey my turkey hunting brother....I, too, have been trying to 'brew' the best gun, choke, load recipe for my turkey guns and have found that there's really no possible way to do it without shooting a bunch of shells. I typically take a systematical approach to the whole thing--one gun at a time. I test numerous chokes with numerous loads and make sure that I blow at least a few rounds through each in order to gain an accurate average. Know this sounds confusing, but, like you, I have an 835 that just HATES an ultra-full choke. However it doesn't hate it with all loads. Ya gotta shoot, shoot, shoot if you're somewhat serious about finding a great turkey gun (and who isn't?) Keep good records and analyze everything.
Just got back from Florida where the bite is red hot on sails. The inshore fishing is just starting to pick up, too. Louisiana is next on the list--woo-hoo. Time to get it on.
I know (or at least think) that CT salt license kicks in this spring. It's a money grab, no doubt and has pissed off everyone, but there's not a helluva lot anyone can do, right?
Life member and damn proud to be.
