all I can say is that was a piss poor shot. You can clearly see in the pictures that whoever shot the mtn lion only shot it's lower jaw off.

  • Expelled After Hunting

From News 10 in Sacramento  :

WILLOWS, CA - A 17-year-old Willows student will have the National Rifle Association behind him when he appeals his expulsion from school for having a shotgun in his pick-up truck.

Like many youngsters his age, Gary Tudesko likes to hunt.  "I hunt ducks, geese, all types of waterfowl," said Tudesko.

But last October, his recreational pursuits landed him in trouble at Willows High School.

"I went hunting before school, me and my friend, and I didn't want to be late so I parked off campus at my school," Tudesko said.

Tudesko was in class when he was called to the principal's office. He soon learned why.

I hope this kid does more than just get his expulsion repealed. I hope he goes after the school administrators that did this, get them fired and replaced by normal people capable of inteligent and reasonable thought.

  • Shed Wars
    10

Like the range wars of the last century, a groundswell of discontent is rippling across the West, but instead of pitting open-range ranchers against honyockers, the new adversaries are those who want to collect shed antlers now vs. those who want them to wait a spell.

Wyoming is aflame right now with discontent, much of it stemming from a Game and Fish Department decision (www.gf.state.wy.us/services/news/pressreleases/09/11/30/091130_1.asp) in November that prohibits shed-antler collection on public land in western Wyoming until May 1.

I say make them walk, if everyone were required to go on foot it would keep a lot of people at home and reduce any impact on land and wildlife.

  • How Big Is Big Enough?
    21

With the quality deer management philosophy so solidly ingrained in today’s hunter’s mind, the old “if it’s brown, it’s down” approach for more and more hunters is becoming a thing of the past. I make no judgment on whichever approach you choose to pursue or to what degree you make those decisions on your own land or lease. As for myself, I suppose I have shot enough deer and see enough in a season that I am more than content to let the “little ones walk” with the rightful hope that they will grow into bigger deer—the tagging of which is always a thrill to any hunter. A big set of antlers is truly one of nature’s most awe-inspiring works of art.

Hailing back to a Jeff Foxworthy joke my philosophy is that if it doesn't have spots "knock its tail in the mud". I shoot the first deer I see every year. Sometimes I get a doe sometimes a small buck but I have also killed three deer over the 130 mark.

  • No Trapping—In Montana?
    5

Supporters of a dangerous ballot initiative aimed at banning the use of traps to manage furbearers on public land in Montana have been cleared to begin acquiring the 24,400 petition signatures necessary to qualify the measure for the 2010 general election.

The Montana Secretary of State’s office concluded last week that Florence-based Footloose Montana has until June 18, 2010 to obtain signatures from 5 percent of the total number of qualified voters in Montana, including 5 percent in each of the 34 legislative house districts. That translates into approximately 24,337 signatures to land the initiative on the November 2010 general election ballot.

i simply cannot understand why some people (anti-hunting bunny huggers) think that they have the right to tell hunters and trappers what they can and cannot do. the animals are a natural resource belonging to everyone. Antis choose to enjoy them on the discovery channel and that's fine, hunters enjoy the resource by hunting or trapping and putting the animals to use. If the antis can't leave us alone then I would like to propose my own issue for the ballot it's called the "Spay and neuter bunny humpers act of 2009"

  • Endangered Grizzlies
    5

It won’t save a single cub, sow or boar, but last week the status changed for the 600-and-some grizzly bears that roam in and around Yellowstone National Park.

The Yellowstone population of grizzlies was reclassified as “endangered” and if it won’t make a lick of difference to the bears, the designation could affect how and where you hunt in one of the most wildlife-rich regions of America.

i agree that grizzlies are not huntable yet and as was stated hunters are the lowest contributors to their unnatural deaths. Since hunters are not the main cause of unnatural death i disagree with imposing more restrictions and requirements on hunters. I hunt in grizzly inhabited areas and have seen lots of sign but no bears. I think anyone who can't tell the difference between a black bear and grizzly must be retarded. If most deaths are caused by motorists then therein lies the area of concern. don't punish hunters because others are hitting them with cars.

What may turn out to be the largest bighorn sheep ever taken in the United States was harvested last week in Montana’s Missouri River Breaks.

it is absolutely rediculous that an undercover agent is allowed to shoot an animal illegally just to catch someone else for doing the same thing.

  • Nevada draws fire after shooting down Utah gun permits
    6

Utah gun owners are protesting Nevada's decision to reject Utah-issued concealed-weapon permits.

On July 1, the Nevada Sheriffs' and Chiefs' Association, which sets the Silver State's permit recognition requirements, dropped Utah from the list of states whose permit holders also may carry concealed firearms in Nevada.

i did a little research into open carry and only 11 states permit open carry (without the need to have an open carry permit)My state being among those.

If they won't let you carry it concealed then use the simple solution called open carry.
