A deer sized animal out to 500 yards should be right in range for a 30-06

a 410 will work, depending upon what you will be hunting

I would suggest the .22 magnum, in a rifle small enough to handle squrils (with full metal jackets) but with hollow points can take down deer.
i would reccomend a 308 or a 30-06 if you just want them dead, but always remember if they are at 600yrds observe the "get as close as possible" rule because 600 yards is a long shot...

if you can hit exactly where you aim & not just in a 6" circle in that area, the white patch on the throat is a very leathal shot... just anywhere in the neck will work... or just a chest shot... just so you hit the vitals....

the 30-06 is the way to go for elk or caribou & with diffrent grains the 125gr. will work for deer- & step it up to a 180gr. for elk or caribou

it depends on how much broke off, on a stiff rod i have used half a welding rod and JB weld
while the '06 has more punch the 308 will hold up and have a flatter trajectory then the '06 but in the choice of hunting both very reliable calibers

id like to third drophook- thank you, now if your just geting started, a 30-06 will suit you wellfor deer, personaly i shoot 150 gr. remington core-lokt ammunition, for smaller game such as coyotes i recomend droping to 125 gr. ,if you plan to go for elk or bear kick it up to 180 gr, top that off with a decent scope, possibly a leupold, but ive always had luck with simmons and tasco, personaly i think SE Oklahoma, just pick out the one you want, personaly i never wear camo, use scent or hunt from a blind, just blue jeans & a dark long sleave shirt, a good area to hunt would be near a wheat feild, in a creek bottom with lots of oaks... if you have any questions contact me at joslin_aaron@yahoo.com

it all depends on upbringing- i know a girl in a nearby town that is about my age, hunts, fishes, traps, & is like the grandson her grandpaw always wanted, & ya im shure you could find some guys to go with you, i have a friend loves to fish to & shes been ranked top in the county several times.
that would depend on the damage to the gun - scratches , dents , rust, & just hard use- depending on how old it is, id say no more than $200

Experience and practice will help you more than anything it just takes time to settle down, after you kill several deer you dont get excited anymore you just think "well if i kill it i gotta skin it"
Q:Why are there so many liberal enviromental freaks who want to take our guns away!!!!!!
from zkk1212 on 04.11.09

because there are too many bleeding hearts out there that dont want us "big bullys" killing "poor little helpless deer" & were just bad people, i think shelters quit taking meat that someone had shot with a gun, they only take "Bow kills", sounds like there bein to picky, my grandpaw lived to be 85 & he was just fine! Lead content, HA! what excuse will they find next! ... o and Bo... why dont you run for president, you atleast seem to have alittle common cents,
Well for trailing and finding, a hound like a redbone, black & tan, blue tick, or basset hound will work, but if your catchin them in a live trap, steel trap or just to kill them when they come in your yard, a red or blue healer, spotted lepard, australian shepards or border collies work great.

personaly i always used daisey redriders, but for hunting a squril easily, i dont think a daisey will work if you get one it will end up costing around $500-$700, try cabellas or walmart might have one, also check around local pawn shops & large gun shops
personaly i have a suzuki 250, its stable, 2-wheel drive and ive pulled cattle with it, cost $2,500 but it might be beter to go a little farther though & get somithing alittle biger like the john deere buck, or a honda, it will cost more tward $5000 but its worth it
birds, squirls, rabbits, coons, possums, snakes, skunks, lizards, & grandmas barn cats
ya, & i think ive heard of some breeding 10-15 per day, during the rut all bucks are active and chase all does possible making them easeyer to hunt... to a point

you should go with a 30-06, in a remmington model 700 if possible with a leupold scope, it will be more expensive but personaly i have a savage 110, i shoot 150 gr core lokt for deer but you should probly go up to 180 gr. for elk, the 270 might be fine for elk if you hit them right but the 30-06 is capable of taking down all north american big game...

for deer the 30-06 is great, a 270 will do the job, but when i got my '06 i got it because with the right bullet & shot placement it can take down any north american big game, a 270 will kill a deerbut is better for varmit hunting.

personaly iagree with you, i love the winchesters, how they handle, shoot and operate, but also winchester is expensive, the most accurate, reliable and had te most value for the least price would be the .22 savage 62 stevens model from wal-mart
