I started my passion for calling coyotes, foxes, and bobcats close to four decades ago. Back then commercially produced predator call selection was quite limited. The best call I found at that time was a Weems. I still have this call on my lanyard and it still brings them in. With the invention of the electronic calls it made it somewhat easier for a novice caller to have positive results calling in critters. I found the e-callers to be very bulky and heavy to carry from set to set so I pretty much stayed with my old standby of reed calls. I started messing around with a duck call while duck hunting on a blue-bird day with no ducks in sight and noticed how many different sounds I could mimmick. I pulled it apart from the bell and reallu started to have fun.
I made a bell from an old funnel and started trying it out as a locater call and it worked!
Today, I use a combination of commercial reed and a Fox Fury e-call. I have found that if you set the e-call up remotely away away you want to keep your scent off of everything and use a urine spray of rabbit or coyote for best results.
Good luck and Happy Yote hunting!
