  • Hunting

Absolutely take a doe if a meat animal is what you want.
  • High-Fence Hunts: Where do you stand?

High fenced “hunting” areas not only captivate whatever animals were on that property prior to the fence being installed, it alters natural migration corridors and gene pool diversity. I grew up in an area where Ted Turner has purchased tens of thousands of acres in large blocks and high fenced it for his buffalo. It’s one of the worst things I have ever seen. High fences impact much more than just the ethics of a free range hunt the whole area is affected negativity.
  • Best Scope for Coyotes

I have a Leupold VX-III with the varmint hunter’s reticle on my .223. I found that reticle to be too fine for early winter morning low light conditions. My 6mm has an old Redfield 3-9X40 scope with the duplex reticle and it works much better in early dawn and late evening light conditions. I just purchased a VX-III with the Boone and Crockett reticle to replace my Redfield; I think the heavier crosshairs of the B&C reticle will work in low light conditions.
  • Tell what you think of the new OL.com!

For awhile there were a lot of problems, the “next” tab wouldn’t advance pictures, certain subject tabs wouldn’t work, little internet gremlins that came and went. It’s been quite a while since I fought any of those problems and now I love the new OL website! There is a lot of information with great user and admin. interaction. The sub-categories within the main subject tabs are very easy to navigate and it makes searching for a specific kind of article very easy. Keep it up!
  • A salute to the changing of the guard at Outdoor Life shooting

I have been a Jim Carmichel fan ever since before I had a subscription to Outdoor Life (OL) and had to sign out for it at the local library back in the early 1980s. I’m not a fisherman in any regard so Mr. Carmichel’s shooting section of OL helped me get through the lonely spring and summer months when my buddies would be talking “fish n’ tackle”. Thank God for Jim Carmichel helping a gun-guy to cope during the off seasons. I knew Mr.
  • Question for firearm owners

For those who have already answered my question of why you, as a firearms owner have not joined the NRA I thank you for your time. I wondered how many people might take the time to answer my question. For those who want to join the NRA go to nra.org, there will be a kind of welcome page and if you want to bypass that click the link at the bottom and go directly to the NRA home page and there it is….the icon to join the premier second amendment protection organization. You can choose to subscribe to e-alerts from the NRA-ILA (NRA Institute for Legislative Action) if you want they are usually pretty good actually. I hope this thread builds some steam and we keep getting some good answers.
  • Question for firearm owners

While I thought I had a unique idea for a message board question I see the OL editor has already touched on the subject I would like to hear the details on why OL readers are not NRA members. If you’re as interested as I am please read on and post an answer.
  • Binocular lens fogging

About six years ago, after researching for quite some time and browsing several models of binoculars in the retail stores I finally decided on a pair of Kahles binoculars. They seemed to be the best balance of quality at a price within my budget. I was really hoping that my upgrade in optics would reduce or eliminate lens fogging. I was very wrong. Just by bringing these Binocs. to my eyes on a cold day the lenses fog instantly. I’m not talking about breathing on the lenses while I’m holding them; just the heat from my face makes these Binocs. useless.
