To John Longo, it was meat and a head going to waste. The road-killed buck near his property was a decent 8-point. So he picked it up, ate the meat and got a taxidermist to mount the head. It wasn’t a monster buck, he says, but for southeast Wisconsin, it was good enough.
“I hate to see it go to waste,” he told the Journal-Times. “I was brought up right after the war. If we had potatoes and eggs and a piece of bread we were lucky ... I’m not a wasteful person.”
I certainly agree that it is a ridiculous law. I think it's just a control issue with the DNR. Why on Earth with so many other things going on such as poaching and disease would they want to take the man-hours and money away from an already strapped state department to fight over a DEAD deer? I could definately understand if it was poached, but it wasn't. Whatever, I'm glad I live in Alabama where people seem to have a little more sense.
I believe that some of what these people say is nothing more than a facade. To them, their image is everything, and to make themselves look bad by admitting that they think killing defenseless animals is ok would be very dangerous to their image.
Some are hardcore anti's like Pam A., but if you went and looked in their closets, I bet almost every one owns a leather belt or some shoes. Problem is, more people will listen to these friggin' hypocrites because they are popular. American people are sheep, willing to believe whatever somebody tells them to.
I got a tattoo of some buck tracks going up the side of my leg... helps remind me during the summer why I work my butt off all year waiting on fall to get here.
It should come as no surprise to regular readers of the Newshound blog that those who choose to deliberately break game and fish regulations are usually not the “sharpest tools in the shed,” so to speak.
Case in point:
A convicted felon prohibited by law from owning firearms or legally hunting didn’t let that stop him from an unusually bone-headed poaching attempt in Bay County, Fla. last week.
Yeah, that's some real good parenting there... I would guess in a few years that girl will end up in the state's prison system for God only knows what, and we the taxpayers will be supporting her because of her parents' stupidity.
Earlier this winter I was forwarded an image of a big whitetail buck stuck on an iceberg, presumably on the Yellowstone River in Montana. You’d think an event like this would be rare at best. Think again. It seems as if the mule deer in South Dakota were jealous of the whitetail’s notoriety and jumped on the first iceberg they could find. This image comes to me from a reliable source and was taken approximately March 20. The deer are floating down Rabbit Creek in northwest South Dakota with no schedule on their next docking port.

Looks like it should be a polar bear on that ice instead of a whitetail....awesome pic though.
