Well the Main rut is over now. It usually starts between November 15-20. But the second rut may still have a little left in it. It will probably be over by Christmas though, so get out into the woods!

It also might depend of whether you are off the ground or not. If you are in a stand 15+ feet off the ground, so is your scent. I dont pay particular attention to scent either and almost always have a chance to shoot.

If acorns are abundant in your area, like they are in mine right now, you can make a sort of "acorn butter". Its really similar to peanut butter, but with acorns. You might need to experiment a little with it a little to suit your deer. Maybe add some honey to it, or some salt. Good Luck! Let us know how it goes!

Thats a tough one... I would end her suffering as soon as possible. If the fawns have grown into a brown coat from their spots, I would say they are ready. Especially if there is a healthy sized heard to keep on showing them how to survive the winter. Good Luck, Youre doing the right thing.

Depending on how many you have and how much time you have, the BEST way I can think of is this: Cut the TOP of the shell off and pour out all of the beads, wadding and gunpowder. I would pour the Gunpowder into a container by itself and either safely burn it or dilute it with water so it can't ignite.

yeah sometimes southern (warmer weather) deer shed them later. But it also depends on the buck's specific genetics. Some bucks will shed early and some won't shed until late march or even april. Plus the fact that it was a smaller buck means that he has less chances of knocking his antlers off on something. Bigger bucks hit branches or other stuff that just takes the antler off for them.

I Had the SAME thing happen to a friend of mine while he and I were hunting. We tracked it for about 6 hours over a mile. The blood drops got smaller and smaller until we completely lost it in the middle of a Christmas Tree farm. Because the arrow wasn't sticking out anywhere, it simply clotted and the deer lived (I hope). He may have died from an infection, but I sure hope not.

One thing that has not been addressed is gut shots. I agree that the absolute best shot it in the lungs/heart area. It is the biggest kill zone and, besides the spine, the deer will die the fastest, most humane death. The biggest thing to be careful of is shooting too far back. If you miss the heart and lungs and hit farther back you can make a real mess. You may hit the stomach or other less vital organs. This is dangerous for a few reasons: 1). The deer will be able to run for a lot longer than if it were shot in the heart or lungs. this means more tracking work for you. 2) the deer probably wont die immediately, so thats more suffering for the deer. 3) you may lose the deer completely. He will probably be able to run pretty far and may not bleed much from a gut shot. I recommend that you are ALWAYS sure of your shot before you take it. Good Luck!

Shrimp is Always good. I have also caught a lot of sheepshead on sand fleas. If you are looking for artificial, try Gulp Shrimp. In the brackish backwater maybe try the "pearl white" color. Good Luck! let us know how it goes.

Sometimes people will get leather "wrist guards" that take the brunt of that hit for you. It is more practical to get the draw length shortened, like Louie said, BUT... if that doesn't work, try looking for a wrist guard.

I think this is a great idea. I don't think the Feds can really handle everything that they have going on, so if the states take over the firearm control then the Feds can do a better job on everything they have left. Does this law apply to things such as bans? i can see where that would be bad. If the wrong people can get a hold of illegal guns because of this law, then I will be a little worried. There definitely need to be carefully planned limitations on things, but overall, I like it.

I would have to say a marlin. I almost caught a Marlin off the Pacific cost of Costa Rica but he go off the line. So for me it would be more of a revenge type of thing. One of my goals is to finally get a Marlin reeled in.
In the NC mountains i have had some pretty good luck with smaller rooster tails. I catch smallmouth in the rivers up here, I'm not so sure about lake smallmouths.
If you are wanting to use topwater now then you are in luck! Spring and summer are the best times for it because the water is warmer and the fish are feistier (or is it more feisty?). In the winter fish are more sluggish and therefore want to save their energy. In the summer they will chase stuff more and they will investigate your topwater plug with more interest. Good Luck!

I think its because of their shape. They put up a pretty big fight for their size because they are flatter and can drag their body through the water to make it harder to pull them in. The saltwater version of this is probably sheepshead. They are shaped the same way and put up a great fight. Both Crappie and Sheepshead taste great, so its a double bonus!
Just like Dave, i bought a can of corn at the grocery and put between 5 and 10 kernels on a hook and it works great. You may also catch some nice catfish with this method.

A lot of what you do depends on what part of the country you're in. But generally, throwing out corn or putting out a salt block works pretty well (if it is legal in your state). You also might want to look into the different kinds of plants that you could put into a food plot. Once again, depending on your part of the country, you might want to try clover, chicory or winter wheat. There are quite a few others but you should probably go talk to someone at your local hunting supply store to get accurate advice for your area.

I definitely think customers should be allowed to keep, but I think sizes and species should be considered. I like Chris' idea of making your own size limits. That can help to regulate the waters just a little more. It also depends on whether you are talking about keeping them for meat or for trophy mounting. If they are just keeping a bunch for dinner, thats fine but YOU should probably regulate, just to make sure they are not keeping ones too small. If a fish is legal to take but is borderline for eating size, then let it go. Give it some time to grow. I don't have a problem with keeping fish for trophies but maybe you should limit it to 1 fish per species per person. They may catch 2 fine fish and want to mount both, but is that really necessary? Let the other one go to make more healthy babies. well, there's my 2 cents, hope it helped. good luck!

I have permission to hunt some land up here in the mountains. I have called everybody who owns adjacent land to the land I hunt to try to get permission to hunt there as well. None of them were able to accommodate me but I did get permission to retrieve any wounded deer that ran onto their property and died. I think that is an important step. Maybe in the next few years I will be able to build up a relationship with them and get permission to hunt. BUT until then, I don't go over there unless I am tracking a wounded deer, Its that simple.

Its good that she is young. What you should do is: 1. Start off by letting her get used to the smell of a shed. So if you have any old ones, let her play with it a little but dont let her chew it up. 2. You need to have some kind of command that you use that she can match with a shed. maybe something like "go find a shed" or "find a buck" or something like that. 3. Soon you can start hiding the shed around the house or yard. You will probably have to help her look for it the first few times but soon she should start looking for it on your command. For the beginning you should leave it somewhere easy to find. 4. Once she is finding them out in the open pretty well you should start actually hiding it maybe under pine straw or something just so she has to use her nose in stead of sight. 5. Once she has gotten pretty good at finding them, go into a small block of woods and hide 4 or 5 sheds along a path. Go get her and walk down the path with her. Give your command "find the buck" ,or whatever, and make her look for the sheds that you hid. When she brings you back one make sure she drops it to you instead of chews on it. Pick it up and giver her the command again. She should go out to try to find the others. Do this until she has found all of them (or at least tried) 6. Now you are ready to do the real deal. Take her to your favorite hunting spot and walk along with her. Go through fields and creek bottoms and other places where sheds should be. When she brings you a antler pat her on the head and give her a little praise, then send her back out using your command. * Sometimes the dogs will bring back bones that are not antlers. Its just that sometimes they cant tell the difference, so make sure you have a good "drop" command. Good Luck! I will post if I think of anything Else

whether you have a outboard or an inboard, it sounds like your plugs are fouling out. If you have an adjustable carb. then try adjusting that, otherwise, you may just need to clean or change out your spark plugs. It is not really an unusual problem, very few outboards will idle well for an extended period of time. There may not be a fix, you may just have to rev it up every now and then then put it back down to idle to keep it from dying out.

I did some research and it seems that Winchester had one plant that was kind of like a subcontractor in SC. They had some problems with the sub. so they bought out the plant. From what I've read, they are planning to (or already have) opened a new plant in Columbia, SC. That's all I could scrounge up, hope it helped!

it looks pretty good to me. I have never used mossy oak brand before but I have been pleased with what I have used in the past. The best thing about it to me is that it is matte. It is not shiny like duct tape and it is camouflage. I would definitely recommend wrapping any shiny parts of your stand with it. Use it to break up the solid colors.

I have always had good luck with poppers in the spring and summer. Maybe you could try throwing a popper and pulling it about 2 feet from the edge of a dock. There's bound to be a big boy waiting under the dock. When he hears the popping and struggling noises, he will come out to investigate. Hopefully he will think your popper looks delicious. Then its up to you to pull him in!

I live and hunt in North Carolina with a 30-06. I have never needed more distance than my 30-06 could handle. My trusty rifle is a Browning A-Bolt. I am completely pleased with it. What part of the State do you hunt?

yes they do. That is why so many hunters are successful during the rut (mating season). The bucks spend all that time just looking for ladies. Once he is done with one he goes to find another. His goal is to spread his genes to as many children as he can. The bigger, stronger bucks get more does than younger or weaker ones.
it might be the same as surf fishing. That is when people throw lines from the beach out into the surf. usually there are weights on the line to keep the bait at the bottom.
I had the opportunity to deep sea fish off the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica. We caught some Dorado (Mahi Mahi) and some tuna, but we almost got a big marlin. He was tailing our jigs but never bit. I got so excited but then watched as he slowly disappeared. Every time someone mentions big fish, I remember that time. So... I want to go back and catch a pacific marlin. Other than that, fly fish for Peacock Bass in the Amazon
